About the Nonprofit Organization
Our story began with a conversation that changed the life course of the nonprofit organization's founders in 2019.
Shani, the co-founder, received a phone call from a woman who shared about another woman whose children simply had nothing to eat. Shani, who has been active on Facebook for years, immediately wrote a post that calls anyone who can lend a hand and help. This call not only helped that woman in the immediate term but also provided her with groceries for several months. And on Facebook, as on Facebook, one good post is making waves, and with countless shares, the help grew. Thus, almost out of nowhere, Shani decided to open a charity storage in her building's yard, and supplies started flowing in.
Shani met Osher (now her husband) who was enchanted by her work and decided to take part as well. Today, they're both addicted to the feeling of satisfaction that comes after successfully opening the supermarket to over 400 families every Wednesday.
When the couple moved in together, it was clear to both of them that they would continue doing good. Initially, they set up a charity in one of the rooms in their home, and through donations, they bought groceries - whoever needed them simply came and took. "At the time, every Thursday families would come to collect a basket for Shabbat that had everything, we had a promenade in our house."
Currently, the nonprofit organization operates a Facebook group with about 35,000 members. Some are in need and some are donors.
The home and beating heart of the nonprofit organization is at 11 Hasadna Street in Petah Tikva. There, a unique free supermarket called "Making Hungry Children Happy" operates, offering groceries and food products at no cost to anyone in need who struggles buying them due to financial distress.
Over 400 families arrive this free supermarket every week, and about 2,000 families receive assistance every month.
The nonprofit organization's free supermarket is operated by the couple Osher and Shani Shukrun, along with dozens of regular volunteers who have become part of "the family."
All groceries in the free supermarket are purchased through donation funds. Shani raises and collects the donations and purchases the products wholesale.
This is a supermarket where anyone who doesn't have money to buy groceries can come and receive them. There are no checkouts. You don't pay anything.
Through the angles, which is you, "Making Hungry Children Happy" assists a wide range of severe distress cases immediately and without delay.
